This year we were lucky enough to keep our computer lab, but, for those of you who know Forest Trail, it's not the nicest room in the building. In fact, it's pretty dark and since our CTC, Carl Hooker left it's been soulless. Last year, upon hearing about the Ed Tech position becoming available at Forest Trail, my mind went to the computer lab (among other places, of course). I wrote this email to my Principal, my AP and my IP.
Welcome to the SPARK LOUNGE! Thanks to Kirk Worthington at Worthington Direct, Charles McCasland, Debra Bailey and the Department of Technical Services who made all this possible.

The teachers official first day back started at Westlake High School where we all attended a 'Professional Learning Conference' organized by Department of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment. The first keynote talked to the controversy of grading and I thought, 'Wow, I'm really hearing this? The District is supporting this man's opinions? Wow!" For the first time in my 11 years of teaching I felt a subtle energy in the room. I was excited. That excitement continued as I sat in various rooms listening to people talk about 'change', about how we can always be better, about how we can inspire, and about how we, as teacher leaders, can change the current reality in education. Dr. Anthony Muhammad was, probably, the best speaker I have ever heard (@newfrontier21). I say probably only because I heard the Dalai Lama speak in the Rod Laver stadium in Melbourne and I don't know that anyone can top that! I was inspired. I was speechless. I was energized.
Thanks to @mustardlofgren and @mattgomez for inspiring this post. I've had the pleasure of being an Educational Technologist at Forest Trail Elementary for just over a year now. It's been an amazing journey. I am getting to know my teachers in a different capacity and it's just been the most inspiring, amazing and challenging year. Having built some great relationships with my teachers at Forest Trai,l I really want this blog to do them justice. I want this blog to not celebrate what they're doing, who they are as educators and the incredible things they are doing in their classrooms to make learning wonderful for their students. I am, quite frankly scared of blogging! I've never considered myself eloquent, funny or creative and every time I start a blog I soon stop. Of course, I can relay what app they are using, what they are using it for but there's something different when you try to involve yourself, your emotion and your perspective. I think true blogging is about more than just fact relaying so I'm going to give it a shot! We shall see how it goes!
