The teachers official first day back started at Westlake High School where we all attended a 'Professional Learning Conference' organized by Department of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment. The first keynote talked to the controversy of grading and I thought, 'Wow, I'm really hearing this? The District is supporting this man's opinions? Wow!" For the first time in my 11 years of teaching I felt a subtle energy in the room. I was excited. That excitement continued as I sat in various rooms listening to people talk about 'change', about how we can always be better, about how we can inspire, and about how we, as teacher leaders, can change the current reality in education. Dr. Anthony Muhammad was, probably, the best speaker I have ever heard (@newfrontier21). I say probably only because I heard the Dalai Lama speak in the Rod Laver stadium in Melbourne and I don't know that anyone can top that! I was inspired. I was speechless. I was energized.
